Jilin University’s specialized class in English for International Legal Affairs will begin admitting students in 2026. Created in response to the country’s pressing need for skilled professionals in foreign-related legal work, the program builds on the University’s strength as a “Double First-Class” institution and its breadth across disciplines, moving beyond conventional models of training to set a new standard for interdisciplinary education in the liberal arts.
Jilin University’s foreign-language disciplines bring more than seventy years of teaching behind them, along with a full bachelor's-to-doctoral training pipeline, a strong faculty, excellent teaching and research, and rich platform resources. Long a leading source of top foreign-language talent, the University offers a solid foundation for the high-quality training this class is designed to provide. Among students who meet its standards, as many as half are expected to go on to graduate study.
The program is built on three pillars—English language, legal knowledge, and hands-on foreign-related practice—and taught in small classes through a dual-mentor system and project-based work. Its core courses span Legal English, Anglo-American law, cross-border compliance, and international arbitration, mapping closely to the demands of high-level fields such as international arbitration and foreign-related compliance.
By moving early into the emerging cross-disciplinary field of legal English, the class brings together strong faculty and practical training resources and partners closely with foreign-related legal institutions and multinational companies to give students real-world experience. The goal is to develop well-rounded professionals who pair precise command of legal English with practical skill in foreign-related legal work—graduates equipped to serve the country’s foreign-related legal framework and the “going global” efforts of Chinese enterprises, and prepared for demanding roles in international law firms, international organizations, diplomatic and foreign affairs work, and the legal departments of major state-owned enterprises.
