About the Speaker:

Ma Xiaolin is a Grade-II Professor and doctoral supervisor at Shanghai University, and Dean of the Institute of Mediterranean Studies at Zhejiang International Studies University. He was among the first 82 experts selected for the “Cultural Masters and Four-Batch Talents” program in China's national culture and publicity system in 2004, and was selected as a leading talent under the third group of the National “Ten Thousand Talents Program” in 2017. He is an expert on international affairs receiving the State Council Special Allowance and a recipient of the National May 1 Labor Medal. He is also a well-known political commentator and foreign affairs columnist, and serves as a council member or academic committee member for several ministries and renowned think tanks.


Professor Ma has long been committed to research on Middle Eastern and Islamic affairs, major-country relations, China’s foreign policy, and the Belt and Road Initiative. He has published extensively, including more than ten books such as the “Battlefied Trilogy” and “The Life-and-Death Arena of Palestine and Israel”. He also worked at Xinhua News Agency, where he published a large number of news reports and photographs in Chinese, English, and Arabic. In addition, he has published more than 40 academic papers and over 1,000 columns, many of which have been reprinted in authoritative journals such as Xinhua Digest.


In 2015, Professor Ma joined Beijing Foreign Studies University as a professor. In June 2019, he joined Zhejiang International Studies University and was appointed the university's first “Xixi Scholar (Outstanding Talent).”
